12 Needle vs 36 Needle Cartridges Which One Should You Use

Aestheticians and home users often ask us which needle count they should start with. The answer depends on the treatment area, skin condition, and the depth of penetration needed. Here is how the two most common configurations compare.

12 Needle Cartridges

Twelve needle cartridges use a small cluster of needles arranged in a compact array. The smaller surface area makes them suited for delicate areas where precision matters more than coverage speed. Common uses include the under-eye area, upper lip, and around the nose. The smaller needle count also means less discomfort per pass, which can be helpful for clients with low pain tolerance or for first-time treatments.

36 Needle Cartridges

Thirty-six needle cartridges cover a wider area per pass, which makes them the standard choice for general facial treatments. The higher needle density distributes the force across more points, which can reduce individual needle pressure. This configuration is commonly used for cheek treatments, forehead work, and larger surface areas. The wider coverage also means shorter overall treatment time compared to using a 12-needle cartridge for the same area.

When to Choose One Over the Other

Clinics we have spoken with typically keep both configurations in stock. They use 12-needle cartridges for precision work around bony areas and 36-needle cartridges for broad facial coverage. Some manufacturers offer dual-depth cartridges that combine different needle lengths in a single array, but these are less common than standard configurations.
